iFD trainees win the marble run competition at Maker Faire 2021
The Industrieverein Sachsen 1828 e.V. organised the MAKER FAIRE SACHSEN 2021 again this year in collaboration with the Branchenverband der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft Chemnitz und Umgebung e.V., FabLAB Chemnitz and C³ Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH.
iFD GmbH was also in attendance with a creative team of four apprentices from the WMS division, eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winning team. On display was a marble run of a very special kind – automated, digitalised and full of excitement.
At the Maker Faire on 18 July 2021 in Chemnitz’s Stadthallenpark, the marble runs of all participating competitors were available for the public to test and try out.
There was a huge crowd at the winner’s stand. Visitors dropped a marble into the box, automatically triggering the virtual journey of the marble through various storage and conveyor systems in a (virtual) warehouse. Numerous guests, young and old, watched the marble intently on the screen until it finally fell out of the box again. “We were very surprised that we won,” said trainee Arno Richter (22) happily when asked by the local press.
The Maker Faire aims to inspire children, school pupils and adults to take an interest in science, technology and the enjoyable use of materials and tools in a creative and playful way. A total of 50 exhibitors, ten of them from the Czech Republic, contributed to the resounding success of the fourth edition of the festival for inspiration, creativity and innovation.
iFD GmbH is proud to congratulate its apprentices on the successful completion of this challenging project and on winning a fantastic first place. With such creative minds who have pursued this project with such passion, iFD looks forward to an innovative and successful future.
